Sacred Sound :

(Om, AUM)

“The one syllable [evākṣara, viz. aum] is indeed Brahman. AUM is ‘pranava’, that which runs through prana or breath. AUM is the ‘sound of creation’, the primodial cosmic vibration, the universal energy which can neither be created nor destroyed

The Katha Upanishad

-Ek Onkar

-The symbol Aum in Kannada, Telugu and Tulu script

-The Balinese Om symbol

-The symbol Aum in Bengali script

-The symbol Aum in Tibetan script

-navkar mantra-jainism

ओ३म्

-Arya Samaj

In AUM, ‘A’ which begins at the bottom of spine or kundalini chakra is the shape of earth, ‘U’ which begins from throat till the tip of tongue is shapeless as water, air and fire, ‘M’ which comes to rest on lips is neither shape nor shapeless but still exists i.e. space.

Aum is also pictorially depicted as:

  • ‘A’, the waking state (jagrat)
  • ‘U’, the dreamy state (swapna)
  • ‘M’, the deep sleep state (sushupti)
  • The semi circle above it, is “maya” which separates the dot or ‘bindu’ from the being of conscious, subconscious and unconscious
  • The dot or ‘bindu’ is the Absolute truth or the state of perfect bliss (turiya or shunyaka)

“AUM” is one syllable made from the initials of the five parentheses: “Arihanta, Ashiri, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Muni” – jainism

CHANTING AUM / Om MAKES AWARENESS TURN INWARDS. ALL OBSTACLES ARE OVERCOME AND ONE ATTAINS MOKSHA (Enlightenment)
